Hi, I’m Zach Pearson — husband, dad, and the guy behind Pearson Authentic.
I started this company shortly after my wife and I welcomed our first child. After making the big decision to have my wife stay at home with our son and go down to a single income, I knew I had to find a way to better provide for us. I wrote down a list of around 15 potential business ideas — most of them really bad ideas — but one idea stood out: leatherwork.
At first, leatherwork sounded more like a hobby than a real business. But the more I researched, the more potential I saw. One thing stood out: people who thrive in this niche are great at telling their story on social media. That gave me an idea — what if I documented my journey of learning leatherwork and shared everything with the goal of broking even?
It was scary knowing that I’d need to spend a considerable amount of money to start, especially with the fact that it might not go anywhere, I might not like doing it, and I would have wasted time and something we don’t have a lot of, money. In a way this made the decision feel much more necessary and urgent, worthy of taking a risk and jumping in.
Fast forward a few months: I’ve discovered that I very much enjoy leatherwork. The support has been shocking and exciting, and I’m beginning to dream and plan for the possible future of this becoming much more than fun side project…
Why "Pearson Authentic"?
I wanted a name that was real, well, authentic — something that showed quality and implied, “made by hand”. I didn’t include “leather” in the name on purpose, because while that’s what my business is, I wanted to leave the possibility of expanding into other handmade goods markets down the road.
What the Logo Means
I designed the logo myself. The hands under the words Pearson Authentic are simple but meaningful — they represent both my hard work to provide for my family and, more importantly, God’s faithfulness in providing for us every step of the way.
Thank You
Whether you’re here to shop, follow along, or just say hi — I’m glad you’re here. Thanks for being part of this journey.
